Long
term care (LTC) can be very expensive. Many people in Milwaukee have a
misunderstanding as to who pays for long term care when such resources are
needed. They are surprised to learn that Medicare and most health insurance
plans, including Medigap policies, do not cover long-term care.
Families and friends provide the bulk of long term care financing, either
through out-of-pocket payments or the unpaid (donated) services they perform for
their loved ones. In 2004, these out-of-pocket payments and unpaid (donated)
services totaled over $120.5 Billion.
